We had so much fun last year in Quartzsite that we set up shop again for the winter. Nomad Glass will be in the Quartzsite area until early March. So if you need your auto, truck, RV or motorhome worked on this winter, we have a full service shop that can do glass repairs and replacement.

We get a lot of questions about what to do to avoid costly complications from replacing your motorhome’s windshield. Attached is an article that we wrote for Woodall’s over the summer that explains some of the things to watch out for.

Keeping Ray LaMontagne & Band On The Road.

Earlier this summer we got a frantic phone call from a tour bus company that supplies buses to bands that are out on tour. While at Red Rocks outside of Colorado Springs, CO this new Prevost coach had it’s side window shatter in a thunderstorm. So we were waiting for them to arrive in Boise two days later, new window in hand. Our crew headed backstage and fixed the window and got the Ray LaMontagne band on the road to their next show.

Idaho Side Trips

We spent the weekend camping along the Snake River about 30 miles south of Boise at a BLM campground called Swan Falls (http://www.blm.gov/id/st/en/prog/blm_special_areas/birds_of_prey_nca/recreation/swan_falls.html). Just a great place to spend the day or two camping, hiking, fishing or bird watching. Swan Falls sits along the southern edge of the Snake River Birds of Prey Conservation Area (http://www.blm.gov/id/st/en/prog/blm_special_areas/birds_of_prey_nca.htm), so if you enjoy bird watching this is the place to go. Like the name implies, the Birds of Prey area is full of hawks, eagles, owls and other raptors. Had a hard time falling asleep due to the owls hooting and then hearing the hoots echo through the canyon. Woke up early to the sounds of geese, chukars and other assorted bird calls.
For camping there are several places to boondock along the river and there are 2-3 outdoor pit toilets available for use. The road down to Swan Falls is a little steep, so check your brakes before you head down to the canyon. Campgrounds are off a well traveled dirt road.
Another site to see is the Swan Falls power plant, built in 1915 to supply power to the silver mines further south in the Owyhee Montains. If you like to fish there are some boat launches in the area as well.
Overall a great place to make a great day or two side trip if you are in the Boise Idaho area.

On our way to Quartzsite we had the opportunity to travel down one of the lonliest stretches of highway in the United States. Nevada’s US Highway 93 is the quickest way to Arizona from Idaho. Often overlooked by Google maps and Mapquest as a way to go south or north in favor of I-15 through Utah, driving on Highway 93 can shave off 4 hours or more from your drive. Set up as a designated trucking route, the road is nice and smooth with wide shoulders for most of Nevada.
Couple of tips for you, there is the possibility of snow and ice from October to April along the route so always check the weather. Towns are few and far between, so if you see a gas station and a restroom you better stop. There are also 3 RV parks in and around Ely Nevada so if you need to stop for the night, this is the best town to layover in. Be on the watch for wild animals on this road, especially around twilight hours in the morning and evening. The last time I drove on this road I had close calls with roaming cows, wild horses, elk, deer and antelope. If you need to feel connected with your cell phone, I had coverage for 90% of the drive through Nevada.
So if you are looking for a little adventure and want to travel along one of the lonliest stretches of road in the lower 48, Highway 93 is the road for you.
